E10 petrol and your scooter

motorex ethanol treatment 250ml

E10 petrol has now launched and has replaced E5 as the default unleaded petrol offering at all fuel stations in the UK (E5 is now commonly refered to as as Super or Premium – depending on brand)

The difference between the two (apart from cost!) is the ethanol content, E10 contains twice as much ethanol as E5. Increased ethanol content brings up the octane rating of the petrol, which is actually a benefit to the running of the engine.

However, ethanol is also very corrosive and can cause damage to steel fuel tanks, and rubber hoses and fittings. Another big concern is the reduction in fuel economy many users are seeing from E10 fuel.

The purpose of E10 petrol is to reduce CO2 emissions, although any potential benefits could well be off-set by the reduced fuel economy, causing more litres of E10 to be burnt to reach the same number of miles per gallon!

Most modern motorcycles and scooter should run fine on E10 petrol. The Government has launched a E10 vehicle checker where you can enter your vehicle details if you are unsure.

Even if you are able to use E10 petrol, it may be a good idea to choose E5 for the reasons listed above. This may not be possible in many cases, however, as not all fuel stations will carry a Super or Premium petrol.

In this case we would recommend the use of Petrol Additives. These work by inhibiting the corrosive behaviour by joining with any free bonds on the ethanol. The fuel treatments will not affect the beneficial part of ethanol and should be used each time you refuel with E10 petrol.

Whatever petrol you choose (just don’t fill up with diesel!) – happy scootering!

Be Safe scooter theft

be safe scooter 1024

Based in London, The Metropolitan Police Force has recently launched a new campaign asking Londoners to lock, chain and cover their bikes. Over 9,000 scooters, motorcycles and mopeds were stolen in London in the last year.

Nationwide, as in London, a large number of bikes are left without extra security; it takes seconds for a thief to steal a moped, scooter or motorcycle, if unprotected.

The campaign is asking riders to layer up their security to reduce their vulnerability to thieves, using the strapline: ‘Lock, chain and cover your scooter to make it less visible to thieves. Adding extra security makes it harder for them to steal’.

Here at Cornish Scoots, we supply a range of security devices that will help you protect your scooter or motorbike. Visit the Security section of our website, where you will find everything you need to follow the guidelines set out by the Met Police and protect your pride and joy.

Lock-up after lockdown

MCN logo

Respected weekly paper MCN (MotorCycle News) has reported that MAG (Motorcycle Action Group) have launched a campaign to highlight the importance of securing your scooter or motorbike when parking in public spaces.

With many riders starting to use their bike for the first time in months, there are fears that will result in thieves having more opportunities and that thefts will rise sharply. The end of restrictions means more opportunity to get out and ride which is obviously great, but owners must take security of their bikes seriously.

MAG’s Director of Campaigns and Political Engagement says “We should not become complacent… The simple message is to lock up your bike when parking in public spaces.”

Cornish Scoots are pleased to offer a wide range of security devices. From Alarms to Ground Anchors or Padlock & Chains – we have a range of products at all prices to suit your needs.

Supplying brands such as Datatool, Squire & ARDI, you can be sure to find a great product in our shop!

This is getting Exhausting!

tecnigas

We are into February 2021 and the Covid19 situation is showing little sign of improving any time soon. With many areas of the country still in lockdown what does this mean for your scooter? Well it means many people have more time to fettle!

One of the most popular upgrades to a scooter is an aftermarket exhaust. A replacement exhaust not only looks better but can also unleash improved performance; allowing better acceleration, top speed and of course sounding a lot better than the stock exhaust as well.

Cornish Scoots are excited to announce the launch of a new range: Tecnigas Exhausts.

With great prices, starting at £100, we can supple exhausts for hundreds of scooter makes and models; including Vespa, Honda, Piaggio, Yamaha and many more.

Sometimes, the replacement of the variator rollers may be required when fitting a Technigas Exhaust. But don’t worry, we have you covered there as well. Browse our extensive range of rollers in the Variator Rollers section.

So why not visit our Shop and browse our superb range of performance accessories. Make sure you stay safe (Hands, Face, Space) but also remember to enjoy your scooter as much as possible. Spring is just around the corner!

Scooter Banana’s

scooter bananas scaled

Scooter sales have taken off in post-lockdown Britain. Sales in July were up by over 50% compared to 2019 as former commuters turn their backs on public transport. Why sit on a crowded bus or train, packed in alongside weirdo’s or smelly so-and-so’s when you could be out on the open road, ejoying your freedom?!

It is estimated that a fair number of these sales can be attributed to existing bikers taking advantage of great dealer offers to purchase a cheap and easy commuter bike, but is also a fact that CBT bookings have also doubled. This means plenty of new bikers now enjoying their first experience on two-wheels.

Many people think that scooters are small, low-powered, unimpressive vehicles. That is not so at all, scooters such as Yamaha’s TMAX or Suzuki’s Burgman have really raised the bar, and of course you can still buy the likes of Vespa if you prefer classic looks.

The attraction of a scooter is obvious: easy to ride, big comfy seats, generous storage for lids or shopping – much more practical than a motorbike! Not to mention cheaper insurance and running costs.

Here at Cornish Scoots we want to help you get your hands on whatever you need, whether you own a scooter as a second bike or are new to biking. Visit our shop and you will find a huge range of products ranging from clothing to accessories to essential oils and fluids. If you cannot find what you are looking for, just contact us and we will do our best to source it for you.

Unlock Your Freedom

logo

Now that COVID19 restrictions are starting to ease, are you looking for a socially distanced way to travel?

Why not consider commuting on a scooter

The safest way to commute is in isolation, and the most isolated way of travelling is on two-wheels!

Benefits include:

  • Fun
  • Isolated
  • Freedom
  • Safer

Your age will determine what you can ride but you may already hold a car driving licence that enables you to ride small capacity motorbikes. Alternatively visit GOV.UK to find out what license you need to gain before heading out on the road.

Scooters are really taking off in the UK, as people try to avoid public transport and look for alternative transport that is cheap, easy, and most importantly, isolated.

On a scooter you are totally isolated; it’s just you in your own personal space. Scooters are affordable, it is estimated that the daily cost of ownership can be less than the cost of a cup of coffee! This is in part due to the incredible fuel economy of these machines.

You may be asking “what do I need to start riding a scooter?” – well the answer may be training, and then of course protective clothing (Cornish Scoots can help here – visit our Scooter Clothing section).

Of course we mustn’t forget the scooter itself! There are plenty of manufacturers out there, offering cheap scooters, big capacity maxi-scooters, retro scooters and even electric scooters.

Why not visit UnlockYourFreedom to find out more.

Follow Government advice – “Consider all other forms of transport before using public transport” – a scooter could well be the answer you are looking for!
