Noco Genius5 Battery Charger

genius5 blog

It’s a little bit of a Genius

Not our words, but as reviewed by MCN writer Richard Newland, see his review below:

I have a fleet of six motorcycles and seven cars so having a charger that’s capable of dealing with a wide range of battery types and sizes is realty useful. The Genius5 is one of Noco’s more powerful units – the 5 denoting that it’s 5amp output – and it can deal with 6-volt and 12-volt lead-acid, gel, AGM, and maintenance-free batteries, including lithium-ion.

It’s both a charger and desulfator – so it’ll not just recover your battery, it’ll also condition it. It’s tiny, too. I’ve used it on a range of bikes and a mix of lead- acid and AGM batteries (in five scales of vehicle, from 1970s CB750 to a Land Rover Defender), and it’s done a great job of getting them back to peak performance).

I use a mix of the supplied crocodile clips and their X-Connect wired connectors. I can even plug in via an adapter to their booster cable. Plug in, hit the power button to cycle the unit to the type of battery connected, then leave it to do its thing, which experience says will take anything from 1-3hrs for a bike battery that’s lost cranking power.

The Genius 5 is part our the extensive NOCO range, available here at Cornish Scoots – at great prices!

Battery Chargers – How To Choose

battery chargers blog

There are a plethora of motorcycle battery chargers available today, from big brands like Optimate, Motobatt and NOCO. Here at Cornish Scoots we supply a wide range at various price points in the Battery Chargers section of our shop.

How do you know which to buy? That is a very important question, as some can be specifically designed for a particular type of battery for example Lithium or Lead Acid. As well as knowing which type of charger you need, it can also be useful to read reviews, both product reviews by magazines or websites and personal reviews by people that own or have used the product.

It is for this reason that we have written this blog. It is not intended to be an in-depth review (we would be here all day!) but a few links to reputable and knowledgeable websites can often be enough to help you decide what to buy.

So with that said, here are a couple of articles for your perusal:

Only The Best Quality Motorcycle Engine Oil

engine oil blog 12122024 png

Cornish Scoots offers you only the best quality oils. You’ll find products from JMC, Motul and other leading brands. All our oils comply with the strict guidelines, specifications and tests of manufacturers and industry associations. Regardless of which oil you buy, with Cornish Scoots you are always on the safe side.

For example, we offer JMC and Motul Semi-Synthetic 4 stroke 10w40 Motorcycle Engine Oil that meets or exceeds API SE, SF, SG, SH, SJ, SL and JASO MA2 specifications.

What is the difference between JASO and API?

JASO (Japanese Automotive Standards Organization) is an organisation formed by Japan’s major vehicle manufacturers. It’s the Japanese alternative to the API (American Petroleum Institute) specifications, as these did not meet the specific requirements of modern Japanese engines.

What does JASO MA2 mean?

The newer JASO MA2 specification provides higher friction values in the wet clutch, compared to previous standards. They give optimum clutch operation in high power models. JASO MA2 is the right motorcycle oil for high-performance and high-torque motorcycles.

How do the API classify oils?

The API grades are defined by two letters for example SG. Later and higher performance engines will need oil complying to higher specifications such as API SL. For many bikes, our oils will often far exceed these requirements.

Where can I find the oil specifications for a bike?

The owner’s handbook will detail the viscosity and API / JASO requirements.

Motorcycle engine oils for four-stroke motorcycles

Most modern motorcycles have combined engine and gearbox lubrication and a wet clutch. This creates additional requirements for engine oil and makes it critical the correct motorcycle oil is used to preserve all three functions.

How to find oils on Cornish Scoots website

Use the Search feature at the top right of our website to find any oil. Alternatively you can click on Engine Oils right here in this blog post!

Winter Ready?

scooter snow png

Many of you don’t ride over winter, so it’s a great time to advise you about a few precautions that can help you avoid problems once winter passes. Here’s our 6-step guide. Click on the highlighted text to see great products that you will love.

It’s good idea to clean a bike before a lay-up, which will help avoid corrosion. JMC Gel Motorcycle Cleaner gives great results without costing the earth.

We also have a range of Autosol Polishes for those who want to really go to town on cleaning.

Using Scottoil FS365 after washing will leave the bike with a fine coating of corrosion protection. It’s safe to use on the whole bike but needs to be washed of brake friction surfaces with water if it’s accidentally sprayed on them.

It can be a good idea to fill the tank before storing a bike to reduce corrosion. But petrol contains ethanol which is hydroscopic, so it can absorb small amounts of moisture.

Use Liqui Moly Corrosion Inhibitor or ACF-50 Anti-Corrosion Formula to help keep the corrosion at bay and avoid fuel system issues come spring.

If the machine is not ridden regularly, it’s best to have a maintainer/charger to keep the battery in good order.

Our comprehensive range of Battery Chargers offer products that will charge and maintain any battery type, including Lithium batteries (make sure to choose the correct product for your requirements).

Battery Chargers (and Jump Starters) from big brand names such as Optimate, Motobatt and NOCO are available in our Shop, have a look at our range and great prices!

Storage can affect tyres. Make sure the tyres are at the right pressure with our Mini Foot Pump. It’s portable, fast & requires minimal effort but no electric power.

Ideally it’s good to move the bike occasionally, so it doesn’t sit on the same spot on the tyres for months at a time. Alternative, we have a big range of motorcycle stands that help keep weight off the tyres.

Covering the bike is a must, outdoors or in the garage. Apart from keeping it dry, a cover will help keep the bike clean and protect against minor storage knocks. We have a range of motorcycle covers for all machines.

ACF-50: The Essential Rust Inhibitor for Motorcycle Owners

acf 50 logo jpg

If you’re a motorcycle owner, you know how quickly rust and corrosion can become a serious problem. Whether you’re riding in a rainy climate, storing your bike for the winter, or just dealing with road salts in colder months, protecting your bike from the elements is essential to keeping it looking great and performing well for years to come. That’s where ACF-50 comes in—an industry-leading solution for rust prevention and corrosion protection that’s perfect for motorcycles.

In this post, we’ll explore why ACF-50 is a must-have product for motorcycle owners and how it can help keep your bike in top condition, no matter what the weather throws your way.

What Is ACF-50?

ACF-50 (Aircraft Corrosion Formula 50) is a high-performance corrosion inhibitor originally developed for the aerospace industry. Since its creation, it has become one of the go-to products for corrosion prevention in all sorts of industries—including the motorcycle world. What makes ACF-50 so effective is its ability to prevent rust on a variety of metals (including aluminium, steel, and titanium) while being gentle on paint, plastics, and rubber.

Unlike traditional rust inhibitors, ACF-50 doesn’t just coat the surface of your bike. It penetrates deep into the metal, displaces moisture, and forms a protective barrier that helps prevent the formation of rust. This thin, long-lasting film is effective even in harsh conditions, from saltwater exposure to freezing temperatures, and will keep your bike’s critical components—like the frame, wheels, exhaust, and suspension—protected.

Why ACF-50 Is a Game-Changer for Motorcycle Owners

Motorcycles face unique challenges when it comes to corrosion. Your bike is exposed to all sorts of environmental factors, including rain, mud, road salts, and humidity, any of which can cause metal parts to oxidize and rust. Here’s why ACF-50 is an ideal solution for these challenges:

1. Effective Rust Prevention

Rust can appear quickly on motorcycle parts, especially in damp, salty, or humid environments. The last thing you want is to see your bike’s frame, exhaust, or engine components start to corrode. ACF-50 prevents this by forming a protective barrier that repels water, halting the corrosion process before it even begins.

2. Protection Against Salt and Moisture

If you live in an area that uses road salts in winter or ride by the beach, saltwater corrosion can be a significant issue. ACF-50 is perfect for protecting your bike in these situations. It actively displaces moisture and repels water, preventing salt from settling on your metal surfaces and causing rust to form.

3. Non-Greasy, Clean Finish

One of the best things about ACF-50 is that it doesn’t leave a greasy residue. Unlike some rust inhibitors that can attract dirt and dust, ACF-50 leaves behind a thin, clear protective film that won’t affect the performance or appearance of your motorcycle. Your bike stays clean, protected, and looking great.

4. Long-Lasting Protection

Unlike other products that need frequent reapplication, ACF-50 provides long-term protection, meaning you don’t have to constantly reapply it. A single application can last months, even in tough riding conditions. For most motorcycle owners, reapplying ACF-50 once or twice a year is enough to keep your bike rust-free.

5. Safe for All Parts

ACF-50 is safe to use on all parts of your motorcycle—metal, rubber, plastic, and even painted surfaces. Whether you’re protecting the frame, wheels, exhaust system, or even the engine, you can apply it to virtually every part of your bike without worrying about damaging finishes.

Benefits of Using ACF-50 on Your Motorcycle

If you’re serious about protecting your motorcycle from corrosion, ACF-50 is an investment that pays off in the long run. Here are just a few of the key benefits:

  1. Preserves Value: By preventing rust, ACF-50 helps your bike maintain its aesthetic appeal and functional integrity, preserving its value over time.
  2. Prevents Costly Repairs: Rust and corrosion can lead to expensive repairs if left unchecked. ACF-50 acts as a preventative measure, saving you from the need to replace or fix corroded parts.
  3. Improves Longevity: ACF-50 helps extend the life of your motorcycle, so you can continue enjoying your ride without worrying about corrosion cutting your bike’s lifespan short.
  4. Ease of Use: With simple application methods, ACF-50 is easy to use and doesn’t require professional help or specialized tools. Plus, its long-lasting effects mean less frequent maintenance.

Final Thoughts: Keep Your Bike Protected with ACF-50

Rust doesn’t stand a chance against ACF-50. Whether you’re storing your motorcycle for the winter, riding in humid conditions, or facing the salty roads of winter, ACF-50 offers reliable and long-lasting protection for all types of bikes. It’s a game-changer for anyone who wants to keep their motorcycle in prime condition, free from the damaging effects of corrosion.

By adding ACF-50 to your regular bike maintenance routine, you’re making an investment in your bike’s future—ensuring it stays rust-free, performs better, and looks great for years to come.
