Hot Topic – Heated Grips

heated grips jpg

At Cornish Scoots we have a great range of products for the winter biker. But heated grips must surely be the top winter accessory, as they add comfort and safety whether on a short trip or a long tour.

We have the superb Daytona range with either seperate controller or featuring the switch integrated in the left grip. This really simplifies fitting and gives a clean look to the bike. These grips give a ‘factory-fit look’ and provide great performance.

For great value, check out the JMP heated grips giving 5 stage operation via a bar mounted controller. These come complete with a fused wiring harness, controller mount, bar end plugs and grip glue. They produce a generous amount of heat to fight freezing fingers and can be wired directly to the battery or an ignition switched supply. These low-cost grips have tremendous reliability, saving you from issues often seen on some budget heated grips.

If you don’t want to fit permanent heated grips then we have the perfect product for you: Daytona Heated Over-Grips. These wrap over the existing grips and are ideal for fitting for winter season and removing for summer.

As always, these products are available at great prices from Cornish Scoots! Visit our Shop now to view these products and a whole range of products at fantastic prices.

Reject Rust

scottoiler e1701358537963

SCOTTOILER FS 365 is a barrier spray that protects the whole bike from the effects of corrosion.

While it can be used all year round, it is particularly beneficial during winter, because FS 365 neutralises the action of salt and forms a non-greasy, protective coating over all surfaces.

It is best to use FS 365 before road salt gets spread or when laying up a bike for winter. It is specifically designed for motorbikes but is equally effective on scooters, quads, ATVs and many other types of vehicle.

Simple to use, simply spray FS 365 generously over the bike. No need to wipe or dry, but you can polish up paint or plastics after application if you want to achieve a nice shine. It can also be used on damp surfaces, so is ideal to apply after a wet ride. Allow the bike to cool before applying to hot engines or exhaust parts. Keep spray off tyres or brakes, but don’t panic if some gets on them, simply rinse off with water.

Whether you ride regularly or occasionally, FS 365 will help any machine survive the winter rust free. Shop online at Cornish Scoots to grab this fantastic product, at great prices!

Get Pumped!

get pumped jpg

Calling all adventure & enduro riders, or anyone that worries about tyre pressure / punctures whilst out riding. A foot pump can be essential to riders needing to adapt tyre pressures for riding offroad or for puncture repair. You need a pump that’s effective, small & light and is always ready to work.

Cornish Scoots offer a couple of mini foot pumps fit the criteria exactly. They are light and compact, so it’s not hard to find space in a pannier, under seat or even strapped onto the the bike. It’s a great pump, needing little effort, and it’s clever design means it requires far less pumping compared to a conventional unit. Stand with one foot on the fold-out base to steady the pump while pumping with the other foot. It soon has a flat tyre fully inflated!

We have two versions, one with an analogue gauge, or for greater accuracy, a version with a digital gauge. Both provide readings in metric & imperial units and will achieve pressure up to 12bar / 160PSI. The pumps connect to all common valves & come in their own storage bag. Additionally, various connectors are included, which means you can also use on boring, non-motorcycle activities such as footballs & airbeds.

We also offer a 90° adapter hose. This makes connection to hard-to-reach valves easy, like bikes with large brake discs or custom bikes with small rim diameter and large hub. It also makes connection with no air loss a cinch.

Being foot operated, it’s always ready for business, unlike electric & battery pumps or CO2 cartridges that can be exhausted. They also comes at a great price, making these manual pumps very attractive for use at home, in the garage, touring or on the trail.

Fuel Additives to Clean, Protect & Preserve

motorex fuel stabilizer 10ml sachets

Fuel additives can be particularly important for scooters and motorcycles. Occasional use or extended periods of storage can all give rise to fuel system problems.

Cornish Scoots have an extensive range of fuel additives that can reduce friction, clean the fuel system, reduce & remove deposits from valves, carburettors & injectors, protect from corrosion and preserve fuel during storage.

With winter approaching, many riders will be laying up their bikes in the next few months, so it’s a great time to have these products on the shelf. It’s important to protect machines that may be unused until the warm weather returns to prevent problems by using these products, thereby avoiding running issues next time you fire your bike up.

However it is not just storage when use of an appropriate fuel additive can also help protect against poor running, fuel system deposits and fuel system corrosion. These are a few of the issues that can be associated with the use of ethanol fuels such as E5 and E10 that are now standard in the UK.

At Cornish Scoots we have a range of great quality and great value products from the likes or Liqui Moly, Motul & Silkolene. See some of our fantastic products below, that will preserve fuel, protect from corrosion, and clean the fuel system.

Oil Change Essentials

oil change essentials jpg

The oil change is the very basis of every motorbike service. So, making it as efficient as possible can pay dividends in time and money.

You can change the oil with hardly any tools, but when you do it regularly (and why wouldn’t you with ever increasing dealer service costs), having a few inexpensive items can speed the process up, allowing you to spend more time on riding your motorcycle. And it can help avoid damage, spillages & clean-up time too.

Here are Cornish Scoots hints on a quick, problem free oil change:

Firstly clean the areas around the filler, oil filter & sump plug. The last thing you want to do is contaminate new oil with dirt or get road grit in a thread, so a quick squirt with brake cleaner will help avoid problems later.

Using the right tools for removing filler plugs, filters & sump plugs makes things so much easier! It’s quicker & minimises the chance of damage. Items such as oil filter wrenches and magnetic sockets for sump plugs are a real help. Universal tools can be useful when there’s no other choice, but filters & plugs can be hard to access & are often dirty or oily. The right tool can do the job quickly – even if it’s been overtightened.

Use the right drain tray or trays, if the bike has two sump plugs in different places. It needs to hold the full (or overfilled) oil capacity with room to spare. But you can opt for an oil drain can, allowing you to do several oil changes before needing to empty the waste oil. And using a drain tray with an emptying spout just makes it quicker to empty waste oil without spills.

Dropped the sump plug into the old oil? A magnetic lifter will have it found in no time.

Measure the correct oil quantity into a jug before filling the sump. One check should confirm the right level. It’s quicker than doing several ‘check & top up’ routines to get the oil level spot-on.

Use the right shaped funnel for the bike to fill the sump. Filler location & access vary enormously, so having a funnel that reaches without it tipping makes the job easy and spill free.

Disposable gloves are a must for any oil change. Apart from saving time cleaning hands, they are the best protection from waste oil. Prolonged or frequent contact can lead to conditions such a dermatitis or even skin cancer.

Lastly, it there is an oil spill, we have everything to clean up in no time. Workshop rags, paper rolls, brake cleaner, absorbent granules & mats can have the bike and workshop clean and safe in a jiffy.
